Ridgebacks draw Lakers in weather-delayed match

NORTH BAY, Ont. – Almost three hours after a delayed kick off, the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and Nipissing Lakers men's soccer programs ended their Saturday afternoon tilt in a 1-1 draw.

Initially delayed by thunder and lightning to start, the match was stopped due to weather again after it got underway. That meant Ontario Tech University held a 1-0 lead for an extended period as Jean Paul Ajala-Alexis (Oshawa, Ont.) scored in only the fourth minute of the match.

His first goal as a Ridgeback, assisted by Elijah Lorenc-Clarke (Scarborough, Ont.), put Ontario Tech in the lead until the 56th minute when Jamal Brown scored the game-tying goal for Nipissing on a penalty kick.

The Ridgebacks dominated play in the match, outshooting their counterparts 10-3 in the match, which included 6-1 in the second half.

Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) made two saves in the victory for the Ridgebacks, while Andrew Johnstone made nine in the loss.

Sunday afternoon the Ridgebacks hope to earn three points against the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury. Kick off is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.

  Overall Record: 1-2-1 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 0-1-1

Next Match: Sunday, Sept. 8 @ Laurentian Voyageurs (2:15 p.m. – Sudbury, Ont.)
