OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's hockey team lost 4-1 Saturday afternoon to the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks.
It was a cautious start for both teams as much of the play was spent in the neutral zone. It was the home team who broke through first, taking the lead at the 6:40 mark of the period. The Ridgebacks used the momentum and pressed for a second goal, but the framed ended with Ontario Tech leading 1-0.
The intensity picked up during the middle period, as the play began to fly up and down the ice, with the teams trading chances. Like the first, the second frame saw a single goal, however this time it was the Golden Hawks tying the game 1-1. The visitors took the lead just under three minutes into the third period and added a second goal only four minutes later. An empty netter in the final minute by Laurier sealed the win.
Ontario Tech will head to Toronto next weekend for a pair of games, opening with a Friday night match against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
