Ridgebacks drop second game of opening weekend

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team fell 2-1 to the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday afternoon.

For the Ridgebacks, their lone goal of the game came from captain Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.). Despite not finding the back of the net a whole lot, the Ridgebacks received strong forechecking performances from Alex Frigon (Dartmouth, N.S.) and Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.).

Ball recorded her first point of the season and her 56th overall OUA point by assisting on the lone goal for the Ridgebacks. While Frigon is still searching for her first point of the season she had her fair share of chances in today's game, but could not beat Laurentian goaltender, Karen Collins.

Behind 2-0 by the end of the second period the Ridgebacks made it difficult for themselves to comeback for and earn two points. The Voyageurs strong defensive play late in the third period kept the Ridgebacks from scoring the equalizer as they pulled goaltender, Celine Tessier (Chapleau, Ont.), in a last-ditch effort to force overtime.

The Ridgebacks will continue the hunt for their first win of the season when they head to Windsor on Friday to take on the Lancers.
  • Second-year forward for the Voyageurs, Megan Arnott, scored her first of the season and the first of the game to give them the 1-0 lead midway through the second.
• The Voyageurs scored again in the second period to increase their lead by two when third-year veteran Myla McCormick netted a one-timer from line mate Morgan McCann.
• Ridgebacks captain, Kassidy Nauboris scored her first of the season when she snuck down the right side behind both defenders and netted a cross ice pass from defender Nicole Zabel (Palmerston, Ont.).   • Ridgebacks third-year veteran Celine Tessier got her first start of the season, making a total of 30 saves.
• Voyageurs played their fourth-year veteran goaltender Karen Collins who made a total of 27 saves, earning her first win of the season.
