WBB | Voyageurs Defeated at the Hands of Mustangs

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team ended their southern Ontario road trip Saturday night as they took on the Western Mustangs in London.
Laurentian entered the game with a record of 2-6 on the season and coming off a loss at the hands of the Windsor Lancer the previous night. On the other side the Western Mustangs sit at 5-4 on the season and go into the game red hot riding a four game win streak.
With the game getting underway Laurentian immediately found success offensively. Led by 8 points by Molly Adams the Voyageurs put up a total of 20 points in the first knocking down 5 threes in the process and jumping out to a quick 20-15 lead.
The second quarter was a reversal of fortunes as the hot start from beyond the arc faded away in the second. The Voyageurs second quarter statline showed them shooting just 25% from the field along with 7 turnovers and being shut down to just 9 second quarter points. This meant that the 18 points put up by the Mustangs in the second allowed them to leapfrog the Vees and take a lead of their own into the halftime break.
The third quarter began well for Laurentian as at the 5:30 mark the game was still well in the balance at 36-33 in favour of the Mustangs. From there though Western would go on an 18-8 run to end the third to extend their lead to double digits going into the fourth.
The Vees put up a fight in the final ten minutes coming out strong on both the offensive and defensive ends, cutting the game back down to single digits early on in the fourth and staying within striking distance all throughout the final ten minutes. They would get as close as four points down but unfortunately the comeback was not to be as Western would hold on to come away with the 66-60 win at home and extending the Voyageurs losing streak to three games.
Laurentian's standout performer on the day was Molly Adams who picked up 15 points knocking down 3 shots from downtown in the process while also pitching in with three rebounds in a strong 35 minute performance.
The Voyageurs will come back home next weekend as they take on the Waterloo Warriors Saturday night at the Ben Avery for their final home game of 2024.
