Pizza Pizza OUA Teams of the Month - January

HAMILTON, Ont. – The following Ontario University Athletics (OUA) teams have been named Pizza Pizza OUA Teams of the Month for January 2015.

All Pizza Pizza OUA Teams of the Month will receive a pizza party, courtesy of Pizza Pizza.

MALE: Ottawa Gee-Gees - Basketball

The Ottawa Gee-Gees grabbed the No. 1 spot in the CIS Top 10 for the first time in school history this January when they defeated the cross-town rival and previously No. 1 ranked Carleton Ravens by a score of 68-66.

Ottawa then went on the road to defeat the No. 5 ranked Windsor Lancers and rolled to a perfect 6-0 record in the month.

The Gee-Gees outscored their opponents 521-425 in the six games and not only remain the nation’s only undefeated team at 14-0 but lead CIS in points per game with an average of 94.2.

FEMALE: Laurier Golden Hawks – Basketball

The Laurier Golden Hawks played the role of giant slayer when they handed the four-time defending national champion Windsor Lancers their first home loss since 2010.

The 60-53 win on Jan. 17, at the time, was Laurier’s 10^th in a row, and they would stretch the streak to 12 before losing on the final day of the month against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

Despite the loss, Laurier finished January with a 6-1 record and is securely in second place in the OUA West Division, just two points behind division-leading Windsor.

The Golden Hawks are currently No. 5 in the country which is their highest-ever CIS ranking in program history.
