Annie Lloyd, Lacrosse, Queen's
At the centre of the Queen's Gaels’ banner season triumph, their first in lacrosse in nearly two decades, was Annie Lloyd's nine point output and all-around strong play across the championship weekend.
Burlington, Ont. – Annie Lloyd has been named IG Wealth Management Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Peak Performer for the period ending October 21, 2018.
Peak Performer – Annie Lloyd (Orillia, Ont.) – 2nd Year – Queen’s Gaels
The Queen’s Gaels ended a nearly two-decade long championship drought in lacrosse last weekend, winning all three of their games en route to the provincial banner. At the centre of the Gaels’ banner season triumph was Annie Lloyd, with her outstanding play helping to carry Queen’s to their first title since 1999.
Lloyd finished the tournament with seven goals and two assists in three games, including a two-goal and one assist performance in the championship final. She had an identical stat line in the team’s championship opener against the McMaster Marauders – a 15-2 win – before netting a hat trick in the team’s semifinal win over the Toronto Varsity Blues (10-2).
Although she may not be the top offensive threat on the team, Lloyd wins faceoffs, takes on tough defensive matchups, and contributes in all areas of the field. Her offensive touch on the weekend, however, was certainly a welcome addition to her all-around game.
