When championship time rolls around, it’s time to step up, which is exactly what Western’s Kayla Lambie did at this weekend’s OUA Women’s Fencing Championship at Brock University.
The fourth-year fencer played a significant role for her Mustangs en route to their silver-medal winning result at the provincial finale. Not only did Lambie shine as part of the Mustangs’ sabre team, which took home gold in the team relay event thanks to a strong 45-23 result over the Toronto Varsity Blues, but she also stood tall in her individual event. Against a stiff field, Lambie managed to rise above the pack to claim gold in individual sabre as well.
Lambie shone bright in more ways than one; however, as the Western standout also took home the Dave O’Donnell Trophy for sportsmanship.
