MALE: Vincent Llorca (Le Mont-Dore, France) –
2nd yr. – Laurentian Voyageurs – Hockey
The Voyageurs went 2-0 this past weekend thanks to an eye-popping eight points from defenceman Vincent Llorca, who was in involved in eight of the team’s 10 goals in a two-game span.
He recorded three assists in the team’s 4-3 shootout win against Waterloo and followed it up with an incredible five-goal performance in a 7-6 win against Laurier the next day, giving him the CIS lead in goals for a defenceman.
His fifth goal against Laurier was crucial, as it gave Laurentian a 6-5 lead in the third period after trailing 5-3 earlier in the game.
The five tallies also set the single-game school record for goals by a defenceman.
FEMALE: Pilar Khoury (Ottawa, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Ottawa Gee-Gees – Soccer
The OUA East Division MVP was dynamic for the Gee-Gees at the OUA Final Four. Her speed and footwork created multiple scoring chances in both the semi-final and gold medal match, and she scored the lone goal in each of Ottawa’s wins, lifting her team to an OUA championship title.
In Saturday’s semi-final match, she raced through the Laurier defence and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper in extra-time, sending Ottawa to the gold medal game.
On Sunday, Khoury was perfectly positioned for a header into the back of the net; the goal ultimately held up as the game-winner.
She will now lead the Gee-Gees to the CIS national championship tournament in Quebec City this Thursday through Sunday.
