Male: Nick Rowe (Barrie, Ont.) – 5th yr – Brock Badgers – Wrestling
The Brock Badgers captured their 15th CIS Men’s Wrestling Championship title in school history thanks to several strong individual performances, including one from Nick Rowe.
After taking home a gold medal at the OUA Championships, Rowe was one of only two Badgers men’s wrestlers to win gold at the CIS level, making a huge contribution to the team’s overall championship win.
Rowe finished at the top of the podium in the 65kg weight class, despite battling a knee injury suffered during the second round of the gold medal match. Showing true determination, Rowe persevered and defeated his opponent for the gold medal.
Female: Sasha Gollish (Toronto, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Toronto Varsity Blues – Track & Field
Fourth-year veteran Sasha Gollish won three individual titles and was a member of the Toronto Varsity Blues 4x800m relay team that won gold and set a new Canadian record, en route to the Varsity Blues capturing their first OUA team women’s track and field title since 2004.
Along with being a part of the record-setting relay team, Gollish set a new individual OUA record in the 600m. Her time of 1:30.41 broke the previous record of 1:30.56 set by Giselle Plantz in 1982. The civil engineering PhD candidate also won individual gold in the 1500m and 3000m races.
As a team, Toronto broke four OUA records, won nine gold medals and is currently the top-ranked team in CIS.
