Buckle, Mandryk named Pioneer Energy OUA Athletes Of The Week

Energy Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week for
the period ending February 16th, 2014.
Each Pioneer Energy OUA Athlete of the Week will receive a gift
card and a dri-fit T-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Energy.
Male: Jason Buckle (Hamilton, Ont.) – 4th yr. – McMaster - Wrestling
The Marauders fourth-year wrestler defended his 2014 OUA title in the 61kg weight class by capturing another gold medal at the OUA Championships this past weekend at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ont.
Buckle’s efforts also helped the McMaster Marauders men win their first OUA team championship since 1993.
He was awarded the prestigious Keegan Trophy which is given to the outstanding male wrestler at the OUA Championships.
Buckle is now eligible to compete at the CIS Championships to be hosted by the University of Alberta in Edmonton, beginning on February 27.
Female: Madelyn Mandryk (Lockport, Man.) – 3rd yr. – Toronto – Volleyball
Third-year setter Madelyn Mandryk tallied 35 assists and nine digs in leading the No. 3 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 quarter-final victory over the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Mandryk, who ended the regular season atop the CIS with 10.19 assists per set, controlled Toronto’s attack seamlessly on Saturday.
She averaged 11.7 assists and three digs per set, earning player of the game honours for her efforts as the Varsity Blues advanced to their four consecutive OUA Final Four.
Mandryk and the Varsity Blues will now travel to Guelph to take on the Western Mustangs at 8:30pm on Friday night.
