Claire Sumner and Connor Black Named Investors Group Athletes of the Week, Powered by 2XU
BURLINGTON, Ont. – The following athletes have been named Investors Group Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week, powered by 2XU for the period ending September 19th, 2017.
Female – Claire Sumner (Calgary, Alberta) – 5th Year – Queen’s Gaels
Sumner, the 2016 Female Athlete of the Year, wasted no time continuing to demonstrate her abilities in 2017.
The fifth-year life science major started her season off on the right foot as she received both individual and team gold medals at the Queen’s Invitational this past weekend. Sumner finished ahead of the pack with a time of 28:45.75 in the women’s 8km race.
Male – Connor Black (Forest, Ontario) – 4th Year – Guelph Gryphons
Guelph’s Connor Black had a fantastic showing during the first race of OUA Cross Country competition this past weekend.
Finishing at the top of the group with a time of 25:03, Black was able to secure first place at the Queen’s Invitational. Black was named team captain for the 2017-18 season and has demonstrated his willingness to take on the leadership role with the recent victory.
