Male Athlete of the Week – Lock Lam, Lakehead Thunderwolves, Basketball
The block party continued up north this weekend, as Lock Lam wreaked havoc as a rim protector and all-around force for the Lakehead Thunderwolves in a pair of wins for the No. 6 squad.
The weekend opened with a stiff test, as the No. 7 Laurentian Voyageurs came to visit for a top-10 tilt. Going up against one of the best teams in the country, as well as one of the top players, requires a standout effort in many regards, which Lam provided in spades. Not only did he pour in 14 points – including four made three-balls – but he also crashed the glass for 15 boards and swatted away seven Laurentian shot attempts, tying a personal best and Lakehead single-game record in the process.
On the heels of this terrific individual outing and 73-59 win for the team, Lam and the T’Wolves welcomed Nipissing a night later. The third-year forward from Ottawa, Ont. went right back to work against the Lakers, chipping in 16 points on over 50% shooting, while also rounding out the stat line with nine rebounds and another six blocks.
The other-worldly block numbers continue to have Lam firmly atop the OUA in that regard, as he now has an average of 3.5 BPG for the season. With 13 more blocks this weekend, he was also able to surpass his own Lakehead record of 53 blocks in a campaign and has done so in eight fewer games for the now 13-3 Thunderwolves.
