MALE: Niklas Bauer (Newmarket, Ont.) – 4th yr – Laurier Golden Hawks – Soccer
Laurier forward Niklas Bauer (Newmarket, Ont.) has been named the Investors Group OUA Male Athlete of the Week after he factored into seven of the Golden Hawks 10 goals this past week.
On Wednesday night against the crosstown rival Warriors, Bauer had three goals and two assists in an 8-1 win over Waterloo. The hat trick, which was Bauer’s second in just three games, was highlighted by a highlight reel worthy bicycle-kick into the top right corner to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.
In tough against the No. 2 ranked York on Sunday, Bauer, a fourth-year business major, scored both Golden Hawks goals as Laurier narrowly fell to the defending OUA and CIS champion Lions 3-2.
The 5’10”, 165 lbs forward now leads OUA in both goals (11) and points (15).
Bauer and the Golden Hawks will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Alumni Stadium in Guelph, Ont. to battle the Gryphons.
FEMALE: Alex Hogg (Ottawa, Ont.) – 4th yr. – RMC Paladins – Soccer
RMC goaltender Alex Hogg (Ottawa, Ont.) has been named Investors Group OUA Female Athlete of the Week after she led the Paladins to a 1-0-1 record this past weekend.
On Friday night against the visiting Carleton Ravens, Hogg, a fourth-year aeronautical engineering major, turned aside all 11 shots she faced in a 1-0 victory, the Paladins first of the season.
Hogg wasn’t done there as on Sunday afternoon against No. 2 ranked uOttawa, the Ottawa, Ont. native stymied her hometown team, saving all 20 shots she faced in a 0-0 draw with the first-place Gee-Gees.
The last time RMC women's soccer took points off both Ottawa and Carleton was October 6 & 9, 2013 (a pair of 0-0 draws).
In 10 games for the Paladins this season, the 5’7” keeper now leads the conference with 134 saves, while her two shutouts rank her 11th overall in OUA.
