QUEEN'S ALUMNI TOPS AT QUEEN'S OPEN CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

KINGSTON, Ont. - Queen's hosted their annual Open invitational cross country meet on Saturday posting a fourth place finish in both the men's and women's event while a team made up of Queen's alumni secured first place in the men's race.
Megan Brown (Puslinch, Ont.) from the University of Toronto and Derek Nakluski (Kitchener, Ont.), from the Toronto Olympic Club captured the individual crowns at Fort Henry Hill.
Nakluski scored the men's victory in a time of 31 minutes and 13.3 seconds on the 10 kilometre course. Steve Koziarski (Mississauga, Ont.) crossed in second place at 32.04. Braden Novakowski (Kingston, Ont.) finished third and was the first of four Queen's alumni to cross the line.
Novakowski was followed by former Queen's runner's Steve Boyd (Kingston, Ont.), Chris Nagle (London, Ont.), and Rob Kitz (Halifax, N.S.).
Third-year Queen's student Matt Hulse (Hartington, Ont.) crossed the line seventh in a time of 33:16.9 to earn the top position by a current member of the cross country team. Clay Patterson (Elgin, Ont.) and Luke Enman (Halifax, N.S.) finished 18 and 19th respectively for Queen's only other Top-20 finishes.
Queen's alumni won the men's team title by posting just 15 points while Toronto finished second with 57 points. Queen's cross country finished fourth with 94 points.
On the women's side, Brown earned the women's race by posting a time of 17 minutes and 9.4 seconds on the five kilometre race which was 45 seconds ahead of teammate Erin McClure (Toronto, Ont.) who crossed in 17:54.1. Third place went to Dana Buchanan (Ottawa, Ont.) who finished in 17:59.3
Leslie Sexton (Markham, Ont.) was the top runner from Queen's placing in sixth place finishing with a time of 18:25.7. Ottawa natives Elizabeth Miller and Leah Larocque also notched Top 20 results for Queen's. Miller finished 16th while Lacrocque finished 18th.
In the women's team results, the University of Toronto Blues finished with 47 points while the McMaster Marauders finished with 54. Queen's finished with 75 points and a fourth place finish.
The Fort Henry Hill course is considered one of the toughest cross country race courses in Canada and will host the upcoming 2008 OUA Championship in just a few weeks time on Sat., Oct. 25, 2008. This course is also the proposed site of the 2009 CIS Cross Country Championship and the 2010 FISU World University Cross Country Championship.
