Golden Hawks shut out Gryphons 1-0
WATERLOO, Ont. (October 23, 2015) - The Wilfrid Laurier University women's soccer team earned their third straight victory as they upended the Guelph Gryphons 1-0 on Friday evening.
WATERLOO, Ont. (October 23, 2015) - The Wilfrid Laurier University women's soccer team earned their third straight victory as they upended the Guelph Gryphons 1-0 on Friday evening.
After securing their 10th win against McMaster last week, the Hawks continued their last season push up the standings, securing their 11th win of the year.
Helping the purple and gold earn the victory were first year forward Gagan Parhar of Surrey, Ont., whose first half goal was her seventh of the season, and goaltender Ashley Almeida of Burlington, Ont., who kept a clean sheet this game as she denied each of the five shots aimed her way. For Almeida, this is her sixth shutout of the season, ranking her third overall in the league with a save percentage of 0.846.
With this win, Laurier (11-2-2) jumps ahead of Western to nab second place in the OUA West division, just behind York (13-0-1).
The Hawks will be back in action Sunday afternoon as they play their last regular season game in St. Catharines against the Brock Badgers (4-9-1). Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
