Klasios nets game-winner as Blues down Ridgebacks
First-year midfielder Natasha Klasios scored in the 84th minute to lead the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Wednesday evening (Oct. 21) at Varsity Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve to 8-6-1 and move into fourth place in the OUA East division with just one regular season game remaining.
After a scoreless first half, the Blues began to pressure and had a great chance to get on the board in the 50th minute, but Alexandra Rocha's shot sailed wide of the net.
The Ridgebacks answered right back though as Shanice Wiliams sent a nice cross to Sarah Harvey, but her shot went just wide. Williams had another chance to open the scoring in the 77th minute, but she fired the ball too far left.
The Ridgebacks continued to pressure but some great defensive effort from veteran Christine Mulligan and excellent work from veteran goalkeeper Sara Petrucci kept them off the score sheet.
Then, in the 84th minute, Klasios received a nice pass from Brenda Murillo and fired the ball into the net.
Petrucci notched her fourth clean sheet of the season, posting one save in the victory.
The Blues wrap up the regular season when they travel to take on the Ryerson Rams this Saturday, October 24.
