WATERLOO, Ont. (September 25, 2015) - The No. 4 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks continued their winning ways on Friday night, earning their fourth straight victory thanks to a 1-0 win over the Brock Badgers.
Despite having almost twice as many shots on net as the Hawks in the first half, Brock was still unable to push past Laurier's defenses with keeper Ashley Almeida of Burlington, Ont., blocking every shot that was fired her way. For Almeida, the five saves that she made today adds to her steadily growing tally giving her a total of 29 for this season thus far.
In the second, Laurier uppped the ante, sending an avalanche of shots toward Brock keeper Lauren MacCulloch of Welland, Ont. Leading the barrage of shots was Emily Brown of Waterloo, Ont., who fired seven shots towards the Badgers goal.
Eventually, it was rookie Gagan Parhar of Surrey, B.C., who was finally able to get one past MacCulloch during the 69th minute of the second half. For Parhar, this was her fifth goal of the season.
With this win, Laurier (7-0-1) now sits in second place in the West division, just behind Western (7-0-2).
Next the Hawks travel to Hamilton where they will be taking on McMaster at Ron Joyce Stadium on Thursday, October 1. Kick off is set for 1:00 p.m.
