OTTAWA (CIS) – Soccer players Alex Rodkin from Ryerson University was named the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female athlete of the week for the period ending Sept. 21, 2014.
Rodkin, a first-year sociology student from Whitby, Ont., tallied four goals in two contests over the weekend, including both game-winners, to lead the Rams (2-5) to their first two victories of the season. On Saturday, the 5-foot-6 striker scored twice in the final two minutes of a 3-2 decision over Queen's, which marked Ryerson's first-ever win over the perennial OUA powerhouse dating back to their first head-to-head meeting in 1986. The talented freshman was at it again on Sunday as she accounted for all of the Rams' scoring in a 2-1 victory against RMC.
Soccer players Jessie Noseworthy of Memorial, Amélie Poulin of UQTR and Shelby Beck of Fraser Valley were also nominated for the women's award.
