OTTAWA (CIS) – Wrestlers Annie Monteith from the University of Saskatchewan and Jason Buckle from McMaster University are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 15, 2015.
Monteith, a third-year arts and science student, was named the Canada West most outstanding female wrestler for the second straight season following the conference championships in Calgary. The Regina native successfully defended her Canada West title in the 48-kilogram weight class by winning her five bouts without having a single point scored against her, including a 5-0 triumph over Kaitlin Kucharski of Winnipeg in the gold medal final. Monteith now focuses on next week's CIS championships at the University of Alberta (Feb. 27-28), where she hopes to improve on her fourth-place finish from a year ago.
Dalhousie volleyball player Anna Dunn-Suen, McGill hockey player Mélodie Daoust and Toronto volleyball player Madelyn Mandryk were also nominated for the women's award.
