Western women take second at Ontario Senior Championships
HAMILTON, Ont. – The Western women's Wrestling team captured second place overall on November 22, 2014 at the Ontario Senior Wrestling championships, earning seven top three finishes, including two gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal.
Fourth year student Valerie Ouellette was the top female winning gold at 48 kg in all three of her matches. Ouellette defeated the Guelph Gryphon's Natassya Lu in an exciting final match, scoring with a two-point Olympic lift to counter Lu's leg attack in the last ten seconds to win the match 5-3. Ouellette pressed to score in the final 15 seconds when Lu's attack put her in a defense position, but she successfully countered to take the lead and hold on for the win. Ouellette, a native of Cambellton, NB, added to a solid performance in addition to winning all her matches at the Harry Geris duals hosted by Western last weekend.
Other top three finishes include Millbrook, Ont., native Michelle Szilagyi in second place at 75 kg, London-Western club member Larissa D'Alleva in second at 63 kg, first-year Anna McKee, also in second at 58 kg, and Brantford, Ont. native Madi Parks, who earned third at 53 kg.
Riley Otto led the men's team with a gold medal finish in the 86 kg division with a victory over Guelph's DJ Webb by pin. The native of Halifax, NS, Otto gave a solid performance after being unable to compete since November 2, 2014 at the SFU International where he went 2-0 before withdrawing due to an upper body injury.
Otto will depart November 25 for the Henri Deglane International in Nice, France alongside the National team and Mustang coach, Dave Spinney, who will be a member of the coaching staff.
Mustang captain, Steven Takahashi placed second at 57 kg. He went 2-0, but was forced withdraw due to an upper body injury in the semi-final match. Takahashi is currently travelling with the Canadian nation team to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the Brazil Cup that will take place November 28 to November 30, 2014. Western's D'Alleva will also participate in the Brazil Cup as a member of the U24 National Women's team.
The Western wrestling team will be hosting the Western High School Invitational this Saturday November 29, 2014 in the Thames Hall gym. Then, the Mustangs will cap off the 2014 calendar year by competing in the York Open in Toronto on Saturday December 6, 2014 beginning at 9 a.m.

Brock wrestlers add 14 medals at Ontario Senior Championships
SUDBURY, Ont. - The Brock University men's and women's wrestling team had a strong showing at the 2014 Ontaio Senior Wrestling Championships in Sudbury with the men placing first overall and the women second. The Badgers collected 14 medals in total including seven gold, five silver and two bronze.
Capturing gold for the Brock men were Brian Cowan (57kg), CJ Hudson (70kg) and Jevon Balfour (74kg). Nick Rowe (65kg) and Mattrixx Ferreira (74kg) collected silver while Zack Falcioni (61 kg) took home the bronze. Other finishers for the Badgers were Matt Jagas (4th - 60kg), Ignatius Pitt (5th - 86kg), Luke Roberts (6th - 60kg), Chris Prickett (6th - 70kg),
The Brock women capture four gold, led by Indira Moores (58kg), Marissa Sorrell (60kg), Michelle Fazzari (63kg) and Olivia DiBacco (69kg) who all won their respective weight class. Jade Parsons (53kg), Liisa Wainman (55kg) and Brittany Gearing (69kg) all took home silver. Rounding out the Badgers medalists was Jessica Broulette who took home bronze at 60kg.

Women Place 4th at Senior Provincials
Women's wrestling team placed 4th at the ontario Senior Wrestling Championships in Hamilton this weekend.
Ranking ahead of Lakehead was Brock Wrestling Club, London Amateur Wrestling Club and Team Impact, with a total of 11 clubs from across Ontario participating.
Emma Horner was the top performing Thunderwolf, placing 2nd in the 60kg, while Megan Smith and Kelsey Dayler both took bronze in their respective divisions (48 kg and 69 kg).
Kira White, of Kakabeka Falls, placed 4th in the 63kg division.
Lakehead's next competition will be January 10th at the Brock Open.
