HAMILTON, Ont. - The Brock University men's and women's wrestling teams both captured gold for the second consecutive week as they collected 20 medals, highlighted by nine gold, at the 2014 McMaster Open.

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Brock University men's and women's wrestling teams both captured gold for the second consecutive week as they collected 20 medals, highlighted by nine gold, at the 2014 McMaster Open.
The Brock men finished with a total of 40 points for first overall. They took home 10 medals, including five gold, four silver and one bronze. Leading the Badgers with gold were Brian Cowan (61kg), Nick Rowe (65kg), Tyler Rowe (72kg) Jevon Balfour (76kg) and Andrii Vorontsov (110kg). Sam Jagas (57kg), Mitchell Winchester (61kg), Cassius Kelman (72kg) and Ignatius Pitt (90kg) all finished second overall. Mattrixx Ferreira collected a bronze at 76kg.
The Brock women were first overall will 28 points, taking home four gold, two silver and four bronze. Capturing gold were Jade Parsons (51kg), Carlene Sluberski (55kg), Marissa Sorrell (63kg) and Olivia Di Bacco (72kg). Tina McLaren (51kg) and Emily Scheafer (55kg) both took home silver. Earning bronze were Liisa Wainman (55kg), Indira Moores (59kg), Jessica Broulette (63kg), and Brittney Gearing (72kg).

Women Grapplers Place 2nd at Mac Invitational
Third-year Niagara on the Lake, Ont., native Grace Bannerman won the bronze medal in the women's 82kg division by after defeating Mandy Toope (Lakehead) 11-0. Bannerman was narrowly defeated 6-4 by Cassidy Noonan (HWC) in the semi-finals .
The Varsity Blues wrestling team next travels to Sudbury, Ont. to compete in the Laurentian Invitational on Saturday, November 15.
