No. 1 ranked Lancers defeat Mustangs to open 2015
The No. 1 Lancer women's basketball team cruised to an 83-51 victory over the visiting Western Mustangs on Thursday night at the St. Denis Centre.
The No. 1 Lancer women's basketball team cruised to an 83-51 victory over the visiting Western Mustangs on Thursday night at the St. Denis Centre.
With the win the Lancers remain undefeated on the season with an 8-0 record and continue to lead the OUA. The Badgers fall to 2-7 on the year and are in third place in the OUA west division.
Lancer fifth year forward Korissa Williams had a stellar performance with a game high 15 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Caitlyn Longmuir contributed 12 points in the win, while Courtney VandeBovencamp came off the bench with 12 points and six rebounds.
Western was led by Mackenzie Puklicz with 13 points and Caroline Wolynski with 11 points. Defensively, the Mustangs were led by Victoria Heine and Sasha Samardzija who had 9 and 8 rebounds, respectively.
Windsor built n 18-8 lead late in the first quarter before taking over the game in the second, outscoring the visitors 21-7 to hold a 39-15 lead at the half.
The Mustangs came out stronger in the second half hitting double digits in both the third and fourth quarters but it was not enough as the Lancers dominated the floor and took the win.
The Lancers will now break until Wednesday January 14th when they travel to Waterloo to take on the Warriors at 6:00pm at the PAC Centre.
