TORONTO, ON - Canada Basketball celebrates three new inductees to the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame tonight at the Air Canada Centre. Andrea Blackwell, Candace Clarkson and Bill Coulthard will all be officially introduced at halftime of the Raptors game. Both Coulthard and Clarkson will enter the hall through the veteran's ballot, whereas Blackwell will be inducted by receiving 70% of the votes by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
Candace "Candi" Clarkson was one of the best young women to play in the Ontario Women's Interuniversity Athletic Association (OWIAA) of the 1970's and 1980's. She was a three-time OWIAA all-star and garnered All-Canadian selections in 1978 and 1980.
She was a member of the Senior Women's National Team from 1977-80 and again from 1982-84. In 1979, she captured the bronze medal at the FIBA World Championship, the FISU Games and the Pan-American Games. Andrea Blackwell spent 17 years with the Canadian Women's National team program. During her time representing Canada on the international stage, Blackwell competed in four World Championships and two Olympic Games. She was a member of the Canadian team that finished fourth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and a member of the team that won bronze at the 1986 World Championships.
