2015 Summer Universiade: Gabriela Stafford captures Canada’s sixth medal
GWANGJU, South Korea (Team Canada) – On the final day of athletics, Canadian distance runner Gabriela Stafford captured Canada’s sixth podium of the games with a silver medal performance in the women’s 1500m.

Under extremely windy weather conditions, the second year University of Toronto student placed second overall with a time of 4:19.27. Stafford advanced to the final on Saturday with a qualifying time of 4:18.35.
"I can't describe the feeling, this is so overwhelming," said the Toronto, Ont. native. "My whole year was leading up to this and at the beginning of the year I didn't think I would walk away with a medal. Once I realized it was a serious possibility, I still had doubts and fears that I wouldn't be able to do what I wanted to do. To capture a silver medal is absolutely amazing."
Teammate Carise Thompson also had a strong race in the 1500m placing fifth with a time of 4:20.07.
Elsewhere on the track, CIS male athlete of the year Ross Proudfoot placed fifth overall in the men's 5000m final. A native of Sudbury, Ont., Proudfoot finished in his competition in a time of 14:13.30.
In the women's high jump final, Rebecca Haworth (Dalhousie University) jumped 1.75m in the event, and the women's 4x100m relay team dropped the baton and did not finish their final.
Canada concluded the Universiade with three medals in athletics competition, including two silvers (men's racewalk, women's 1500m) and a bronze (women's shot put).
