Queen's and Toronto women, Western and Waterloo men all undefeated into final day
KINGSTON, Ont. - The OUA squash championships are in full swing after two days in Kingston as teams from across the province are competing for the provincial banners.
Heading into championship Sunday, the Queen's Gaels and Toronto Varsity Blues women are both undefeated and on pace for a championship-deciding final matchup at 1:30 pm on Sunday. On the men's side, it will be a similar scenario as the Western Mustangs, and Waterloo Warriors are both undefeated and meet at 11 am Sunday in what could be a championship-deciding match.
On the women's side, Queen's sits at 4-0 having gone 35-1 while Toronto is at 3-0 with a 26-1 record in their games. Western is the next closest to the undefeated teams at 2-2 and 15-21 but has lost to both Queen's and Toronto by 9-0 margins.
The top five players for the Varsity Blues are all sitting at 9-0 while Queen's has three players at 12-0, one at 12-1 and another at 9-0. Queen's has been led by Hanna Grover who has a 132-27 points record so far while the standout for Toronto so far has been Thandi Myers who has played to a 99-29 points record.
For the men's side, the Western Mustangs continue to be a dominant force sitting at a perfect 4-0 and 36-0 in matches while having gone 79-3 in their games thus far. Waterloo sits undefeated at 4-0 but have a 33-3 record and have gone 75-20 in their games thus far. The Queen's Gaels round out the top three having gone 3-1 while going 26-10 in their matches.
Individually, five Mustangs are undefeated at 12-0 with Stefan Houbtchev putting up the top performance at 132-13 so far. The Warriors have been led by Thomas Manley who is their lone 12-0 member while the Gaels have been led by Spencer Lee who has performed to an 11-2 record.
