Royal Military College honours varsity athletes at annual ceremony

KINGSTON, Ont. – The achievements and successes of RMCC varsity athletes were highlighted throughout the annual Varsity Awards Ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, March 19th.
Alexandria Hogg (Ottawa, ON) won her first Kelly Gawne Memorial Cup as RMC Female Athlete of the Year. Hogg is the first RMCC female athlete to be named OUA East Division Rookie of the Year. The first year Engineering student was also selected as the Top 1st Year Athlete at the college.
Thomas McMullen (Ottawa, ON) was named Tommy Smart Cup award recipient as RMC Male Athlete of the Year. The fifth year player, who is currently completing his Masters of Applied Science, led the OUA in blocks while also leading his team in points.
Adelaide Fearnley (Gibsons, BC), a fourth year Honours Chemistry student, was named recipient of the H.R.H. Prince of Wales Cup for her excellence in all four components throughout her college years. The women’s soccer team captain has maintained high marks in a demanding academic program, while achieving bilingual status as well as being selected for several important leadership positions during her time at RMCC.
The Captain Matthew Dawe Memorial Cup is awarded annually to the outstanding male or female ROTP varsity athlete, of any year, who excels in all aspects of College life at RMC. Stephanie Bengle (Oakville, ON) has been one of the leaders of the women’s soccer team over her four seasons. The Honours Psychology student was able to balance the demands of varsity soccer while serving as team captain over the past two seasons, setting a great example for team members.
Also recognized for their performance this past year were fencers Harrison Kelertas, who was named Top 2nd Year Athlete, while Kalina Larocque was recognized as the Top Team Captain. The men’s rugby team was also recognized, as Matthew Greenwood was named recipient of the Fair Play award, while the team was named RMCC Team of the Year following their first OUA playoff appearance since 2008.
