Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late equalizer gives Windsor draw with No. 5 Lions

The Windsor Lancer men's soccer team hosted the nationally ranked York Lions for their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers upset the leading Lions with a late goal in the second half of the match, resulting in their third draw of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lancer fans filled the stands of Alumni Field with cheering and passion for the blue and gold this weekend. While the men started strong in the midfield, they conceded a goal in the 31st minute of play following a decision for a handball in Lancer territory.

Despite solid goal scoring attempts by Devin Hernandez and Frankie Facchineri, the Lancers went into halftime trailing 1-0.

The second half saw teams battle back and forth to neutralize each other's offensive efforts. Goalkeeper Simon Grande had a stand-out performance, standing tall to keep the Lancers in striking distance of the Lions. Grant Ferguson also had a strong showing, holding down the fort and keeping possession with clean defensive tackles.

In the 90th minute of play, the Lancers found a late burst of inspiration with Facchineri drilling a cheeky equalizer into the net. Ultimately, the men's resilience allowed them to walk off the pitch with another point this weekend.

UP NEXT
The Lancers will now have a doubleheader against the Western Mustangs next weekend. The men will return to Alumni Field on Friday, September 15th at 8:15 p.m. and then hit the road for another match on Sunday, September 17th at 3:15 p.m.
