AROUND OUA: Bauer scores two in latest victory for Golden Hawks
WINDSOR, Ont. (October 14, 2016) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s soccer team moved into sole possession of third place in the OUA West division thanks to their 3-1 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Friday night.

Bauer scores two in latest victory for Golden Hawks
WINDSOR, Ont. (October 14, 2016) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's soccer team moved into sole possession of third place in the OUA West division thanks to their 3-1 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Friday night.
The first goal came early in the game from Carlos Soares (Leamington, Ont.) of Windsor, who scored on a penalty kick, beating Laurier's first year starting keeper Rocco Strazella (Woodbridge, Ont.) to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead.
The remainder of the half saw Laurier desperate to even out the scoreboard, as they finished the opening 45 by outshooting the Lancers 7-1.
Although the Lancers took a 1-0 lead into the second half, Laurier burst into the second 45 with a new intensity.
Within the first few minutes, Aaron Johnston of Thunder Bay, Ont., found the back of Windsor's net to put the game to a 1-1 tie.
Eager to break the draw and pull away with an advantage, Laurier forward Niklas Bauer of Newmarket Ont., came up clutch for the Hawks, as he has done all season.
Within the last twenty minutes of the game, Bauer scored two thrilling back-to-back goals for the purple and gold. Following tonight's performance, Bauer is now tied for first in the league for goals, with 13 goals on the season, and also stands alone at first in the league for points, with 17 to his name.
Despite the Lancers best attempts to fight back, there was no stopping the Hawks and there would be no more goals scored for the rest of the game.
With three goals under their belt, the Golden Hawks confidence shone through as they ended the night with a 3-1 victory over the Lancers.
Laurier (7-5-1) currently sits alone in third place in the OUA West standings, with 22 points, whereas Windsor (4-5-4) falls to sixth place with 16 points.
The Hawks ended the game totaling 11 shots on goal to Windsor's four, and may have gained the momentum they need when they hit the road to take on the Western Mustangs on Sunday, October 16th.
That matchup will be get underway at 2:15 p.m. at Huron Flats East in London.

Wild game... Same result for Ridgebacks
KINGSTON, Ont. – A wild game had an all too familiar result for the UOIT men's soccer team as they walked away with a 5-5 draw against the Queen's Gaels in Kingston.
For the third straight match, the Ridgebacks allowed a goal in extra time that ended up resulting in a tie. On Friday night, it was not just one goal by the opposition but two, as the Gaels erased a 5-3 deficit to escape with the draw.
Christopher Jaggarnath (Scarborough, Ont.) and Erik Petrovic (Sombor, Serbia) scored first half markers for UOIT as the teams entered halftime knotted at 2-2.
After Andrew Martin put the Gaels up 3-2 in the 52nd minute, the Ridgebacks offence exploded for three straight goals over an 18-minute span.
Fabio Campoli (Frosinone, Italy) tied the game at 3-3 and Brendan Costello (Oshawa, Ont.) got the go-ahead goal in the 76th minute. Four minutes later, it looked as if Noah Antenucci (Brampton, Ont.) put the game rest as he scored his first goal of the year giving UOIT a 5-3 advantage.
Jacob Schroeter and Sam Abernethy of Queen's spoiled the Ridgebacks party, beating UOIT goalkeeper Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) twice in extra time to earn the draw.
Queen's fired 28 shots with 13 ending up on target while UOIT had 11 in the game.
With their third straight tie, UOIT (3-7-4) remains in the sixth and final playoff spot in the OUA eastern conference, one point ahead of the Trent Excalibur (3-8-3). The two teams will clash in their season finale on Saturday, Oct. 22 in Peterborough.
The Ridgebacks will take on RMC this Sunday in Kingston at 2:15 p.m. With a Ridgeback win and Trent loss to Queen's, UOIT would clinch a playoff spot.
