Golden Hawks and Brudiu block out Badgers 2-0
WATERLOO, Ont. (September 25, 2015) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's soccer team earned their third consecutive win on Friday night as they shutout the Brock Badgers 2-0 at University Stadium.
WATERLOO, Ont. (September 25, 2015) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's soccer team earned their third consecutive win on Friday night as they shutout the Brock Badgers 2-0 at University Stadium.
Niklas Bauer of Newmarket, Ont., was once again a force for the Hawks and made his presence known, contributing to four of the nine shots fired at Brock keeper Matthew Zaikos of Markham, Ont. In the 26th minute, Bauer was able to make his contribution, and put the Hawks up 1-0. For the 3rd year business student, this was his 8th goal of the season, and sixth in three games, moving him into a tie for first place in the conference scoring race.
Not ten minutes later, Brady Kelly of Guelph, Ont., contributed an additional goal, bringing the Hawks a two-goal lead in the opening half. For Kelly, the goal was his first of the season.
Despite increased Brock possession in the second half, keeper Stephan Brudiu of Kitchener Ont., was up to the task, completely shutting out the Badgers by blocking each of the seven shots that were fired in his direction. That performance earned him his third consecutive clean sheet as he upped his league-leading save percentage to a very impressive 0.923.
The win gives Laurier sole possession of fourth place in the OUA West division with 14 points.
Next up for the Hawks (4-2-2) they travel to the Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton to face No. 7 McMaster (6-2-0) on Sunday September 27th. Kickoff is at 3:15 p.m.
