OTTAWA (CIS) – Soccer players Audrey-Ann Coughlan from McGill University and Jacob Schroeter from Queen's University are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 20, 2015.
Coughlan, a second-year science student from Longueuil, Que., scored five goals in two weekend road victories, netting the game-winner and meriting game MVP honours in both contests. The 20-year-old forward tallied twice in a 3-0 conquest at UQTR last Friday and registered a hat-trick in Sunday's 4-1 win at UQAM to help the Martlets improve to 3-1-0 in league play, leaving them only one point back of first place in the ultra-competitive RSEQ conference.
Cape Breton soccer player Keona Simmonds, Wilfrid Laurier rugby player Kelly Martin and Calgary rugby player Natasha Loucks were also nominated for the women's award.
Schroeter, a second-year political studies student from Ottawa, found the back of the net in back-to-back road games to lead the Gaels (3-1-2) to a weekend sweep against Toronto and previously undefeated Ryerson, which was ranked second in the nation prior to the contest. In Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Varsity Blues, the sophomore striker scored in the 11th minute to tie the affair at 1-1. The following day, Schroeter netted the game-winner in the 55th minute as Queen's went on to upset the Rams 4-1.
UNB soccer player George Lawton, Laval cross country runner Alexis Lavoie-Gilbert and Mount Royal soccer player Drake Rendle were the other male nominees.
