TORONTO, Ont. - The No. 1 York Lions men’s soccer team continued its perfect season on the weekend.
The men played to a 3-1 victory over the visiting McMaster Marauders on Saturday at York Stadium and then followed up that performance with a 1-0 triumph over the Brock Badgers on Sunday.
The Lions played aggressively in both games and dominating possession of the ball. York scored all three of its first-game goals in the first half as defender Branko Majstorovic (Toronto, Ont.), Franco Ruscetta (Woodbridge, Ont.) and Adrian Pena (Woodbridge, Ont.) all found the back of the net.
McMaster broke through with a goal at the 87 minute mark but by then it was too late. The Lions defence proved to be too strong, ultimately giving York the victory.
The second game was much closer as both York and Brock fought hard at both ends of the field. In the 72nd minute, Pena again tallied a goal to edge the Lions past the Badgers.

LAURENTIAN 2, QUEEN'S 1
SUDBURY, Ont. – Even the weather did not favour the Gaels this weekend as the men’s soccer dropped their second straight game. The Gaels lost 2-1 to the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Queen’s striker Patrick Zanetti (Carp, Ont.) started the pressure early and scored on a header just four minutes into the contest. Later, Laurentian took control of the first half with Johnny Maurizio (Hamilton, Ont.) scoring to tie the game in the 44th minute.
Laurentian continued its control in the second half and scored in the 53 minute when Andrew Piccenetti (Sudbury, Ont.) scored a diving header to give the Voyageurs the win.
Weather was a factor in this match-up as the remnants of the much weakened hurricane Ike moved through Ontario on Sunday.

CARLETON 2, TORONTO 1
OTTAWA, Ont. - The Carleton University Ravens men’s soccer team defeated the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, 2-1, to remain undefeated in the OUA East with a perfect 5-0-0 for 15-team points. The Ravens run their OUA East regular season unbeaten streak to 30 straight games without a loss (26-0-4) during that stretch.
The Varsity Blues and Ravens both came into the match as the only unbeaten teams remaining in the OUA East and 400 plus fans were not disappointed as both teams put on a display of outstanding soccer going back and forth, challenging each other to see who would come out on top at the of the match.
Carleton would open the scoring at the 18th minute when veteran defender Nick Persichino, (Thunder Bay, Ont.) fed Andrew Park (Sudbury, Ont.) a beautiful pass and Park made no mistake putting the game’s first goal behind Toronto’s goalkeeper Luciano Lombardi, (Scarborough, Ont.), by lifting the ball over the six foot two inch keeper into the upper right corner of the net.
The Varsity Blues mounted an attack after Carleton’s goal and narrowly missed tying the match right before half as they hit the crossbar off a perfectly played corner kick, but the Ravens defence was able to clear the rebound and go into the intermission up by one goal.
In the second half, The Varsity Blues kept the pressure on Carleton’s defence and at the 57th minute Toronto tied the game on a goal by Nordo Gooden (Kingston, Jamaica) off a pass from Mario Nallira (Etobicoke, Ont.) The match stayed tied for 12 minutes before Carleton’s Justin Campos (Summerville, PEI) set up fifth year veteran Matt D’Angelo, (Ottawa, Ont.) for his third game winning goal of the season. The CIS Athlete of the Week now has 6 goals in five games.
Veteran goalkeeper Arjun Langford (Oakville, Ont.) made 4 saves to earn his second victory of the weekend and fifth career victory against Toronto.

QUEEN'S 1, NIPISSING 1
NIPISSING, Ont. – Queen’s men’s soccer played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.
Andrew Jarvis (Thunder Bay, Ont.), was Queen’s loan scorer opening the contest up at the 31 minute. Mike Hamilton (North Bay, Ont.) scored for Nipissing at the 51st minute of in the second half to earn the tie.

CARLETON 3, Ryerson 0
OTTAWA, Ont. - The Carleton University Ravens men’s Soccer team defeated the Ryerson University Rams, 3-0, in OUA East play Saturday.
The Ravens made their mark extremely early in the match when striker Craig Deebank (Pickering, Ont.) scored past Rams goalkeeper Rob Paolozzi (Toronto, Ont.) just 43 seconds into the game. Carleton continued to pressure through the opening minutes of the game before Raven goalkeeper Arjun Langford (Oakville, Ont.) came up with two saves to keep a clean sheet.
Deebank netted his second of the match in the 20th minute when he intercepted a pass and calmly slid it into the opposition goal to put the Ravens up by two. Ryerson failed to convert an opportunity off of the crossbar late in the half as Carleton retained the 2-0 at halftime.
Carleton continued to dominate the game after the break, pressuring Ryerson in their own end for the majority of the second half. Ryerson had one dangerous chance in the half with yet another shot hitting the crossbar in the 61st minute. Just minutes later Ahmad Berjawi (Ottawa, Ont.) fired a shot from 20 yards that tucked under the crossbar to bring the Ravens tally to three.

RMC 0, LAURENTIAN 0
SUDBURY, Ont. - The Laurentian Voyageurs came away with a 0-0 draw against the RMC Paladins Saturday afternoon at the Laurentian Soccer field. The Voyageurs keeper Scott Cliff and RMC's keeper Jeremy Whalen made numerous saves to secure their shutouts.
Throughout the first half, possession remained relatively even. Cliff (Sudbury, Ont.) made four saves while the opposing keeper, Whalen (Halifax, NS) stopped six of the Voyageurs shots. One of the best scoring chances came in the 40th minute when Laurentian's David Hysen (Sudbury, Ont.) drilled the ball towards the net beating Whalen, only to be stopped by RMC's defenseman Jardran Kani-Ostos (Kingston, Ont).
The momentum of the game picked up in the beginning of the second half. Both teams took their turns controlling the play. In the 70th minute, Cliff made a diving save to deny RMC's Adam Masood's (Mississauga, Ont) shot on the net. Shortly after, play was halted due to an injured Paladin player, in the 78th minute. After a lengthy delay, RMC's midfielder Landon Zeeman (Cambridge, Ont), took a penalty kick just outside of the 18 yard box. Cliff made an amazing save to keep the game scoreless.
