The Waterloo Warriors are proud to announce Tyler Greer as the next head coach of the men's rugby program. Greer has served as the assistant coach of the black and gold the last two seasons under Luke Demeter who has moved onto a new opportunity out west.
Greer's coaching experience runs deep beyond his time at Waterloo, coaching both the under-20 and men's senior Waterloo County rugby teams. Greer also spent time as a performance analyst during his role as assistant coach of the Warriors.
"It is an absolute honour to be named the next head coach of the Warriors at such a prestigious institution as the University of Waterloo," mentioned Greer. "I think it will be a great challenge and I am excited to get started right away. We have a good mix of veteran leadership and a strong incoming class of recruits for next season."
The Warriors look to return to their winning ways after missing the playoffs the last two seasons but Greer is confident the squad is heading in the right direction.
"The last two seasons have been a struggle but watching from the sidelines, I have seen a big improvement in confidence and the willingness to compete with the top OUA schools from game to game," said Greer. "I hope to build on that momentum gained last season with the goal of reaching the post-season this year."
Greer is a world rugby level 2 trained coach and has a good mix of coaching and playing experience that will help Waterloo succeed once again.
"Tyler's knowledge of the game and coaching style separated him from the other candidates," commented Interuniversity Manager Chris Gilbert. "We are excited to move forward with Tyler. He has a great understanding for the game and our program, working as an assistant for the past two years."
Greer's passion and excitement for rugby is undeniable and his excitement level will give Waterloo the competitive edge needed to compete in the ultra-competitive OUA conference. His duties begin immediately with recruiting atop the list.
