Guelph, Ont. (September 12, 2014) – The Guelph Gryphons men's rugby team won their third game in a row after a 34-6 victory over the Western Mustangs on Friday night at Varsity Field. The Gryphons move to 3-0 for the season and the Mustangs drop to 1-1. The win has the Gryphons atop the OUA standings.
The Mustangs started the scoring against the Gryphons with a penalty goal by Mike Santangeli (Oakville, Ont.) to make it 3-0 early on in the first half. The Gryphons would have trouble trying to break through the Mustangs, with Western holding Guelph on the goal line. Western finally regained possession of the ball after a scrum, but the Guelph was able to win it back after a lineout. The Gryphons would finally cross the goal line scoring the first try of the game with a successful conversion, to set them ahead 7-3 in the first half.
The try would give the Gryphons momentum with two more tries and one conversion in the first half, making it 19-3 for Guelph going into the second half. The Mustangs would pick up momentum, trying to find the sidelines and get around the wall of Gryphons, but would be unable to score a try. The Gryphons would score two more tries, a conversion and a penalty goal to make the final score 34-6, after a Mustang penalty goal.
Eric Howard (Ottawa, Ont.) and Adam Maahs (Port Perry, Ont.) led the team in scoring with two tries each for a total of 10 points. Joe Newman (Waterdown, Ont.) would be close behind with nine points, after successfully converting three times and kicking for one penalty goal. Byron Boville (Barrie, Ont.) would contribute five points to the total with one try.
Mike Santangeli would be the only Western player to score during the game, with two penalty goals for a total of six points.

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's rugby team (2-1 OUA) rolled past the Waterloo Warriors by the score of 39-15 Saturday afternoon at the Brock Rugby Field.
The Badgers carried the play for the majority of the first half, leading 20-3 after 40 minutes. 2013 OUA leading scorer, Connor Fitzsimmons, added 3 trys in the opening half, while chipping in with a convert and penalty goal accounting for all 20 Badger points.

KINGSTON (September 13, 2014) – A standout performance by the forward line scored the Gaels (2-0) their second shutout of the season, this time over RMC (0-3), in their OUA Home Opener this Saturday on Nixon Field. Despite the rainy weather, the Gaels ended the game up 45-0.
The Gaels were strong on defence early, breaking down the RMC offence, with turnover after turnover weakening their momentum. The Gaels put the first points on the board in the 19th minute with a driving maul pushing Brendan Sloan (Peterborough, Ont.) over the goal line for a try and David Worsley (Vancouver) finishing it off with a conversion.
The Gaels continued their offensive pressure with a dominant forward performance putting yet another maul try on the board by James Dent (Toronto) and conversion by Worsley. Scoring his first try of the game, Worsley broke through the defensive line in the 37th minute of the game quickly followed by a try from Jeffrey MacDonald (Toronto) in the 39th minute and yet another Worsley conversion. The Gaels finished the second half with a 26-0 lead.
Not losing any momentum, Kainoa Lloyd (Mississauga, Ont.) scored a try for the Gaels in the first minute of the second half. McMaster 35 @ Laurier 35
WATERLOO, Ont. – The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's rugby team lost their second consecutive game falling 35-17 to the McMaster Marauders on Sunday afternoon at University Stadium.
Matthew Nichol of Ottawa, led the way for the Marauders as he registered two tries on the afternoon. Teammates Mitchell Santilli of Brantford, Ont., Christopher Woodhead of Oakville, Ont., and Michael Smith of Freelton, Ont., added a try each while James Leveridge had two conversions and two penalty goals to complete the scoring.
Andrew Thompson of Pickering, Ont., struck twice for the Hawks to lead their offensive attack, while Jeffrey Dinsmore of Waterloo, Ont., notched one try for his team as well. Fly half Nathan Roberts, also a Waterloo, Ont., native, would record the only conversion for the Hawks in the game.
The Hawks look to break back into the win column when they take on the Western Mustangs in London on September 20th. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m.
