Concordia scores late to defeat Gaels, game three goes Sunday night in Montreal

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 24, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels gave up their first powerplay goal of the postseason but it came at an inopportune time as the No.7 Concordia Stingers struck with just 2:11 left in the third period to break the tie and force a game three Sunday night in Montreal.

GAME FLOW
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) once again got the start for Queen's in net fresh off a 49 save performance in game one on Wednesday. Bailie was put to the test in the opening period by the Stingers once again. 
 
The Stingers opened up with the games first powerplay opportunity and tested Bailie but were unable to put one past the Gaels netminder. Queen's penalty kill unit continued their streak of not having allowed a powerplay goal this period.

Bailie's counterpart for the Stingers Philippe Cadorette was steady for Concordia when necessary in the opening period finishing with five saves. The best chance of the period came while the Stingers were shorthanded. The Gaels turned the puck over in their own end and Concordia's Philippe Hudon broke in alone on Bailie but was denied by the glove of the Queen's netminder.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net through 40 minutes although the Stingers appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead for a brief point late in the second frame. A shot from centre ice in on Bailie deflected off his stick and into the Queen's net but the Stingers had not tagged up and were called for an offside so the game headed to the third period still scoreless.

In the third Queen's found themselves on the powerplay 14:33 into the period but Cadorette stopped all shots faced with ease.

The Stingers got an even up call and went to the powerplay with just 3:04 left in the period. Anthony De Luca was finally able to get a shot passed a screen Bailie to put the Stingers up 1-0. They added an empty-net goal to seal the 2-0 win and force a third and deciding game.
