OUA M-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: NO. 3 GOLDEN HAWKS WIN BATTLE OF WATERLOO

WATERLOO, Ont. - The No. 3 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (22-4-1) completed their head to head season against the cross-town No. 9 Waterloo Warriors (17-7-3) with a 6-2 victory on Thursday evening winning the regular season series 3-1.
Previous to this contest, the Golden Hawks had claimed first in the OUA Far West Division and received a bye through the first round of the playoffs.
Laurier, ranked number three in the country, opened scoring early in the contest with forward Nathan Peacock (Tillsonburg, Ont.) netting his fifth of the season. Mark Voakes (St. Thomas, Ont.) beat Waterloo goalie Pier Pelletier (Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!, Que.) to put the Hawks up by two heading into the first break.
The Warriors evened the score within five minutes of the second getting what would be their only two goals, including one short handed, to get by netminder Mike Thompson (Oro Station, Ont.). Thompson, in only his third start of the season played well stopping 35 shots on net.
The start of the second saw defenseman Chad Kennedy (Mississauga, Ont.) netting his second goal of the season as one of the three power play markers in the contest. Jean-Michel Rizk (Dunham, Que.) added three points to his CIS-leading point total which is now 54 (25 goals, 29 assists) as he picked up two goals and an assist.
Luke Girard (Mississauga, Ont.) added the final and only goal of the third as he netted a power play goal by Waterloo backup goalie Keaton Hartigan (Kitchener, Ont.). Hartigan faced nine shots in the contest while starter Pelletier saw 34 shots, allowing five goals.
Laurier was a perfect six for six on the penalty kill.

BROCK 6, YORK 4
TORONTO, Ont. – The Brock Badgers men's hockey team (9-13-3-2) took on the York Lions (14-11-0-3) on Thursday night. Despite heading into the third period with a two-goal deficit, Brock defencemen Joey Pell (Dryden, Ont.) took part in three of four third period goals to give Brock the win.
York took an early lead four minutes into the opening period, but Brock provided an answer on the power play with Pell hammering home a slap shot from the point. Both teams battled for an edge during the remainder of the period but none was found until Brock received penalties as time ended in the first, allowing York to begin the second period on the power play.
York dominated the second period. Early in the period York received a 1 minute and 54 second, 5-on-3 power play on which Tommy Lee (Port Perry, Ont.) came to Brock's rescue again and again in order to keep the game at 1-1. After 13 minutes of onslaught Lee was finally broken as Doug Henderson (Bradford, Ont.) deflected a puck to the back of the net. This time it was Brennen Giroux (Charlie Lake, B.C.) who answered the call for the Badgers, tying the game 2-2. York scored two goals in the final minute of the second period to take an unexpected 4-2 lead to the dressing room. Lee made an unbelievable 16 saves in the second period alone.
Brock entered the third down by a score of 4-2. Brock erupted in the third for a total of four goals. Pell, Gary Friesen (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.), Steve Mullin (Guelph, Ont.), and Mike MacIntyre (Sioux Lookout, Ont.) all scored to give the Badgers a 6-4 win over York. Pell led the way for the Badgers with two goals and two assists.
Henderson scored twice for the Lions. Other goal scorers for York were Jesse Grespan (Toronto, Ont.) and Adam Ross (Edmonton, Alta.).
