Gee Gees Caleb Agada Off To Spain
Caleb Agada is taking his talent to Europe.
For the boy growing up playing on the hard courts at the local YMCA in Burlington, a lifelong dream has become a reality.
The former three-time OUA All-Star signed his first professional contract with CB Prat of Spain on Tuesday. ""I was really excited when my agent and I finalized the contract. Spain was the place I wanted to go to at the beginning of the process."
The jump from the amateur to the professional level is difficult for some, but the former Gee Gees product welcomes the new challenge. "It's something I've dreamt about for a long time."
Agada, who graduated with a degree in economics, gives CB Prat a versatile two-way guard ready to make an immediate impact.
The University of Ottawa guard averaged double digits in scoring in four of his five seasons in the OUA, twice averaging 15.8 points per game. He is a two-time OUA Defensive Player of the Year, while also picking up the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (now U Sports) Defensive Player of the Year award back in 2015-16.
"The same energy and passion I play with on the court, both on defence and offence," is something Agada feels will help him contribute to the team immediately.
His best year came during the 2014-15 campaign, scoring 15.8 points per game, while shooting 54% from the field, 41% from beyond the arc, and 83% from the charity stripe. He also had 7.9 rebounds a game, while averaging 1.6 steals a game
His presence on both ends of the court though did not come right away, rather he attributes his growth as as player to his team. "Everything I have learned and done to bring my game to where it is now is because of the coaches and players who have been with me for the last five years."
This past year, while guiding the Gee Gees to a fourth-place finish, Agada was eighth in the league in rebounds per game and sixth in the league in steals.
Since the OUA season ended, the Burlington native has been working on his jump shot and decision-making to make a smooth transition to the professional level.
While he continues to work on his game, something he will not have to work on his love for it. "Basketball is my passion and I wish to pursue it as long as I can."
*Note: CB Prat is based in El Prat de Llobregat, Catalonia in Spain. The team currently plays in the league LEB Oro, the second division in the Spanish basketball league system.
