For the second year in a row, the Lancer men's basketball team has knocked off the No. 5 McMaster Marauders to advance to the OUA Final Four.
Windsor defeated the host Marauders 79-78 at the Burridge Gym on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton. Seeded fifth heading into the post season, the Lancers knocked off the Laurentian Voyageurs on Wednesday before edging the Marauders to advance to the final four for the fourth consecutive year.
The Lancers opened strong with a quick pace to take a commanding 18-4 lead to open the game. Alex Campbell once again was on fire scoring 19 of the Lancers 23 first quarter points, while Tyler Persaud made some huge rebounds to help the Lancers take control of the game.
In the second, Windsor struggled with turnovers and the Marauders continued their solid offensive play outscoring the Blue & Gold 25-17 to send the game into halftime, tied at 40-40.
The second half saw the two teams' battle back and forth, fighting for each possession. Although McMaster tried to make some gains thoughout the half, the Lancers answered back with everything they had to keep the Marauders at bay.
Windsor held a seven point lead with two minutes remaining, and although the hosts brought the game within four with less than a minute to go and scored a three at the buzzer, the Lancers held on for the one point victory.
Campbell finished the game with 33 points to bring his overall total for the week to 70 points in two games.
