Campbell dominates Voyaguers; Lancers advance to face Marauders
Alex Campbell and the Lancer men's basketball team defeated the Laurentian Voyaguers 82-73 in the first round of the OUA playoffs on Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre.
Alex Campbell and the Lancer men's basketball team defeated the Laurentian Voyaguers 82-73 in the first round of the OUA playoffs on Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre.
With the victory, the Lancers will advance to the OUA quarter-finals on Saturday March 5th against the No. 5 McMaster Marauders at the Burridge Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm and can be seen live at www.oua.tv.
Campbell was a one man show literally scoring over 50% of the Lancers total points on the night. In his final game on home court, the fifth year guard opened the game with 13 of the team's 18 first quarter points. With the Lancers trailing by one at the half, 37-36, Campbell was already at 21 points. He finished the contest with the games only double-double at 37 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with 4 steals and a block in 38 minutes of play.
Overall, the game was a tight match-up from the opening tip-off. With the score being tied five times and the lead changing 12, both teams scored 24 points in the paint while the Lancers doubled up on points off of turnovers, 18-9. Laurentian, however, took advantage of their bench scoring 14 points with their reserves, while the Lancers relied on their starting five.
Other Lancers hitting double digits included Isiah Osborne with 18 points and Tyler Persaud with 12.
Laurentian was led by David Aromolaran with 25 points, Sam Hirst with 15, Jospeh Sykes with 12, and Nick Simon with 10.
