Head coach of the Waterloo men's basketball program, Greg Francis will be moving on from the Warriors after accepting a new position with Canada Basketball as Performance Manager - Men's High Performance.
Francis coached Waterloo for three seasons (2012-2015) producing quality talent such as point guard Myles Charvis (Mississauga) who was third in the OUA this season with 20.3 points per game and was a member of the all-rookie team in 2013 and Jaspreet Gill (Oliver) who brought excitement to the PAC on nightly basis. He also brought in local talent Quinn Turner (Waterloo) who is expected to be an impact player in the near future and blue chip recruits Ben and Wells Davis.
"This has been a great opportunity to coach at the University of Waterloo and I would like to thank the Department of Athletics for a very enjoyable three years," mentioned Francis. "I look forward to watching the men's basketball program grow with the dedicated and passionate group of student-athletes in place."
Francis who has been the coach of the Canadian Junior Men's National Team and an assistant coach of the Senior Men's National Team joins Canada Basketball full-time. In his new position, Francis will lean on his coaching experience to develop world-class Canadian basketball players to achieve international success.
"We are losing a tremendous person and basketball coach," mentioned Associate Director, Christine Stapleton. "Greg brought a great amount of knowledge and experience to our student-athletes and his absence will leave a big hole but we are confident we will find the right replacement to guide our men's basketball program. We look forward to watching Greg's continued success and impact on basketball in this country."
"We feel we had one of the best coaches in the country in coach Francis and that will help set the expectations for his replacement," concluded Director of Athletics, Roly Webster.
Greg begins his duties at the end of April and a search for a new coach begins immediately led by Stapleton with involvement by our alumni and student stakeholders.
