Toronto 68 @ Ryerson 104
The No. 3 Ryerson Rams men's basketball team scored a season high 104 points en route to a 104-68 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Wednesday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Five different Rams scored in double figures on Wednesday including a game-high 27 points from Aaron Best (Scarborough, Ont.). Jahmal Jones (Mississauga, Ont.) added 21 points and 12 assists while JV Mukama (Hamilton, Ont.) and Juwon Grannum (Mississauga, Ont.) both had strong nights off the bench with 11 and ten points, respectively.
Ryerson shot 52.2% from the floor throughout the game and sank 12 shots from beyond the arc – half of those coming from Best – to pace the Rams offence.
The Rams pride themselves on coming out strong and playing with intensity at both ends of the floor and they did that consistently again on Wednesday. The Rams also racked up 20 assists on the night, something that Jones mentioned following the game that helps balance the offence and make the team better.
Ryerson led 24-15 after the first ten minutes of play before leading 52-34 at halftime. The Rams bench had a strong night overall, giving the Ryerson starters some deserved time off while not missing a beat offensively. Through three quarters the Rams led 77-52 before adding another 27 points in the final frame to finish the night with a season-high 104 points.
Toronto's Devin Johnson had a team-high 18 points in the loss. Julian Clarke also reached double figures with 12 points.
The win is Ryerson's tenth in a row and pushes their record to 16-2 on the season. The victory also sealed the BIA Cup for the Rams, as Ryerson won three of the four matchups between both the women's and men's teams against Toronto. The Blues drop to 4-12 on the year.
Ryerson will wrap up the regular season on February 20 when they host the Queen's Gaels.
