Ryerson head coach Rana joins Utah Jazz for NBA Summer League

TORONTO – Roy Rana will continue a busy summer of basketball when he travels south to Las Vegas later this week to be a guest coach of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Utah Jazz during the NBA Summer League.

Rana, entering his sixth season as Ryerson's men's basketball bench boss this fall, started his eventful summer at the helm of the Canadian Junior Men's National Team that claimed the silver medal at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The podium finish also qualified the Canadian squad for next year's FIBA U19 World Championship in Crete, Greece.

After a short stint back in Toronto, Rana will join the Jazz coaching staff for the duration of the 10-day Summer League competition. Rana will also use the opportunity to keep watch on his previous Canadian national team players who are taking the next step in their basketball careers.

"I am grateful for the amazing opportunity General Manager Dennis Lindsay and the Utah Jazz organization are providing me with," says Rana. "It will be a fantastic opportunity to learn at the highest level with a coach in Quin Snyder who has experienced success at every level of the collegiate and professional game."

The NBA Summer League is a period in which teams experiment with rosters and lineups and is often the first NBA experience for the latest group of draftees. Last year was the first year a Summer League champion was crowned and this year each team will play three games before being ranked for a single-elimination knock out tournament to determine a new champion. Rana's busy schedule continues following the NBA Summer League as he readies the Ryerson Rams for a run at a national title. The Rams will host the CIS Final 8 men's basketball championship at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, March 12-15, 2015.
