1,277 – Points in the career of Toronto Varsity Blues guard Alex Hill, making him the all-time leading scorer in school history. The fifth-year guard became record holder after a 22-point performance against the Ryerson Rams. Hill, a native of Toronto, passed Dave West’s previous record of 1,269 points which has stood since 1965. He has 13 games left in his OUA career to extend his lead.
1 – Career double-doubles by Ryerson Rams women’s basketball player Keneca Pingue-Giles after hitting the mark against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Her 21 points and 11 rebounds in the game were both career highs for the third-year guard. Pingue-Giles (Winnipeg) is having the best season of her career, averaging 13.7 points per contest for the Rams, who sit fourth in the OUA East.
4 – The number of points for Waterloo Warriors men’s hockey player Justin Larson in his squad’s opening game of 2014. The Buckhorn, Ont. native scored his 10th goal of the season and added three assists as the Warriors earned a 9-5 win on the road against the Brock Badgers over the weekend. The four-point night gives Larson, the 2012-13 OUA scoring champ, 23 points on the season so far.
12 – The number of OUA women’s volleyball game scheduled for the week of January 6-12. After over a month off for the holiday break 12 of the 14 teams are in action in a week that kicked off with the Guelph Gryphons slipping past the Brock Badgers 3-2 on Tuesday night. Matches will continue on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will feature a match-up between the No. 6 York Lions, who sit in second place in the OUA East, hosting the fourth-place Ryerson Rams, at noon on January 11.
5 – The number of OUA teams in the CIS men’s basketball Top 10 in the first ranking of 2014. The Carleton Ravens are in their familiar No. 1 spot, a position they’ve held for the past 18 rankings dating back to last season. The Ottawa Gee-Gees are ranked second, while the Ryerson Rams hold down the fourth spot. McMaster and Windsor round out the OUA squads in the Top 10, in the eighth and tenth positions respectively.
49.11 – The number of seconds by which Guelph Gryphons runner Madeline Yungblut (Wroxeter, Ont.) won the 3000-metre race at the Guelph New Year Opener track meet. Her time of 9:43.73 gave her the nearly 50-second win and accounted for the best time posted in the CIS so far this season.
