Varsity Blues win 2017 Fall Invitational at Carleton
TORONTO, Ont. - The University of Toronto Varsity Blues figure skating team earned a first-place finish at the 2017 Fall Invitational hosted by Carleton University on Thursday, November 23.
The Blues earned 56 points to finish first overall, ahead of McGill and Guelph. Toronto garnered top-five results in 9-of-11 events on the day and earned seven podium finishes.
Two pairs of Varsity Blues won their events. Rookie Melanie Zavitski and veteran Lila Asher won the senior similar pair event, while Keiko Marshall and Emma Jianopoulos won the senior silver similar dance.
Two-time OUA all-star Chyna Hui claimed the silver medal in the senior silver solo dance, while also placing second in the junior silver similar dance with partner Claudia Choi.
Veterans Melissa Eratostene and Stéphanie Carroll earned the silver medal in the open short dance, with Eratostene also claiming the bronze medal in the open solo dance.
Rounding out Toronto's podium finishes was rookie Felicia Bonitatibus, who placed third in the novice short program.
