Brock University's Malcolm McLeod takes Eastern Canadian title
Malcolm McLeod dominates with university foil gold at the Eastern Canadian Championships.
St Catharines, ON. Competing in the first national university circuit event of the season Beamville native Malcolm McLeod fought through the day defeating freshman Mateusz Kozak (Ryerson) 15-13 and then David Chen-Li (University of Toronto) 15-11 in the university men's foil event at the Eastern Canadian Fencing Championships held at the Markham PanAm Centre this past weekend.
In only his second year at Brock, Malcolm McLeod continues his university foil fencing dominance from his national university title of last season.
In the university men's sabre event, freshman Aaron Ohmstead of Kingston Ontario took the bronze medal after loosing to last year's OUA and National sabre champion from York University Adrien Sparling. Aaron had a phenomenal day going virtually undefeated in the first rounds only loosing to Sparling. Aaron met Sparling again in the semi-finals, loosing to him a second time.
The team's next event will be at Brock University November 18-19, 2017. Brock hosts one of the largest fencing events in Canada with athletes attending from across Canada and New York State. Spectators are always welcome and free to watch some of the best Olympic sword fighting in Canada. All events will take place in the Ian Beddis gym at Brock University.
