Carleton leads after Day One at OUA Men's Fencing Championships
ST. CATHARINES, ON - It was a great first day of competition at the 2017 OUA Men's Fencing Championships hosted by Brock University.
ST. CATHARINES, ON - It was a great first day of competition at the 2017 OUA Men's Fencing Championships hosted by Brock University.
After Day One, Carleton sits in first place with 109 points, while the defending champions, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (91 points), sit in second. The RMC Paladins are currently in third place with 62 points heading into Sunday's team competition.
In the Men's Foil, No. 1 ranked and defending champ Samuel Hardwicke-Brown from Ryerson took home gold with Carleton's Philip McCully and Geoffrey Devaney capturing OUA silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Toronto's Colin Dale struck gold in the individual Men's Epee event, while Carleton's Zachary Zanussi took home silver and RMC's Dani Mansour collected bronze.
To wrap up Day One, York's Adrien Sparling won gold in Men's Sabre. The Varsity Blues collected their second medal of the day when William Kinney added silver. Rounding out the podium, Queen's Gaels standout Kenneth West took home bronze.
