Ford, Korol, Domagala named Football Players of the Week
Burlington, Ont. – Tre Ford, Luke Korol, and Michael Domagala have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 16, 2018.
Offence: Tre Ford, Waterloo Warriors
Tre Ford has been turning heads across the country, and the second year quarterback out of Niagara Falls, Ont., did it once again in one of, if not the biggest win in over 15 years for the Warriors football program.
Ford orchestrated a comeback for the ages, including an 88-yard strike to his No. 1 target, Tyler Ternowski, late in the game to erase a 12-point deficit and lead his Warriors to a 34-32 win over Laurier; their first Battle of Waterloo victory since 2002.
Ford amassed 558 offensive yards on the day, going 26-for-35 in the air for 472 passing yards with three passing TDs and added 86 on the ground. Ford leads the country in passing touchdowns with 15 and is second (first in OUA) in passing yards per game at 389.3.
Defence: Luke Korol, Guelph Gryphons
Luke Korol has been all over the field for the Gryphon defence in 2018 and his most recent performance was his best yet.
The Gryphons' 5th-year linebacker racked up a season-high 16.5 tackles while helping the No. 10-ranked Gryphons earn a 26-20 road win over the Windsor Lancers. Among these lofty totals were three tackles for a loss. The Dundas, Ontario native helped seal the win by recording his second sack of the day on Windsor's final possession of the ball game, earning the Gryphons their second win of the season.
Korol's outstanding 2018 campaign has him leading the conference in tackles per game (9.6) while serving as the central figure in the second-ranked defence in the OUA, limiting opponents to just 16.5 points per game.
Special Teams: Michael Domagala, Carleton Ravens
The Carleton Ravens went down to the wire in their win against the Queen’s Gaels, and kicker Michael Domagala was an important figure in the team’s ultimate victory.
Domagala, now a two-time OUA Special Teams Player of the Week, accounted for a very important 12 points in the Ravens 42-39 2OT win. He kicked things off with a rouge point to open the scoring, before connecting on a 40-yard field goal to push the Ravens lead to four at the time. Domagala would follow suit in the second half with another rouge, followed by a 26-yarder to bring Carleton’s cushion to 19.
Four made extra point attempts brought his total points for the game to 12, and along with some crafty work in the endzone to deny Queen’s any would-be game-winning scoring in overtime, Domagala once again proved to be a key figure for the now 3-1 Ravens.
