HAMILTON, Ont. - The following athletes have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for the period ending October 3, 2016.
OFFENCE: Nate Behar (London, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Carleton
To say that Carleton Ravens receiver Nate Behar (London, Ont.) loves playing the crosstown rival uOttawa Gee-Gees in the Panda Game is a major understatement.
Behar, a fourth-year communications major, had 12 receptions for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns in the No. 10 Ravens 43-23 victory over the No. 7 ranked Gee-Gees.
The 12 receptions are second most in a single game in his career against Gee-Gees, falling just one short of his career high of 13 set back in the 2014 Panda Game.
The dynamic 6’0” receiver is now ranked fifth in CIS averaging 95.7 yards receiving, while his seven touchdowns have him tied for second in the country.
Behar and the Ravens are back in action on Friday afternoon when they host the visiting Windsor Lancers at MNP Park.
DEFENCE: Kurtis Gray (Waterloo, Ont.) – 1st yr. – Waterloo
Another solid performance for Warriors rookie linebacker Kurtis Gray (Waterloo, Ont.) not only garners him OUA Defensive Player of the Week honours but he's quietly putting together a solid case for Rookie of the Year consideration as well.
In Saturday’s loss to the Queen’s Gaels, Gray, a first-year arts & business major had a game-high 9.5 tackles, one sack and four pass breakups.
Playing for his hometown Warriors, the 6’3”, 210 lbs linebacker ranks first in OUA in both solo tackles (38) and total tackles (48.5), while his 4.5 sacks have him third in the conference.
After a much deserved Thanksgiving break, Gray and the Warriors will return to action on Oct. 15 when they travel to Toronto, Ont. to take on the Varsity Blues.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Tunde Adeleke (Ottawa, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Carleton
There might not be a more dangerous player in the country than Carleton Ravens returner Tunde Adeleke (Ottawa, Ont.), who has been named OUA Special Teams Player of the Week.
On Saturday afternoon in the Panda Game, the fourth-year communications major had fans of both teams holding their breath every time he touched the ball.
Adeleke finished with five punt returns for 176 yards, an average of 35.2 yards per return. However, his biggest play of the game came in the fourth quarter when he returned a Gee-Gees missed field goal attempt 120 yards for a touchdown. The return was the longest missed field goal return in the CIS this season, nearly equaling his 2013 129-yard missed field goal return for TD against the Gee-Gees in the Panda Game.
The 5’10”, 178 lbs returner also had one kickoff return for 24 yards. Through six games this season, the Ottawa, Ont. native is averaging 22.5 yards per punt return to go along with four touchdowns.
Adeleke and the Ravens will look to run their win streak to three games on Friday afternoon when they host the visiting Windsor Lancers at MNP Park.
