BURLINGTON, Ont. - The following athletes have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for the period ending November 2nd, 2015.
OFFENCE: Dillon Campbell (Whitby, Ont.) – 5th yr. – Laurier
Dillon Campbell exploded for a stunning 295 yards to help lead his Laurier Golden Hawks to an upset 29-15 win over the defending Yates Cup champions McMaster Marauders this weekend.
The 5-foot-8, 205 lbs Whitby, Ont. native carried the ball a stunning 40 times, breaking the OUA record for most carries in a game, all while averaging a ridiculous 7.4 yards per carry. The Hawks all-time leading rusher, and the holder of six Laurier rushing records, broke one of his own against Mac, with his rushing performance breaking the school’s single game rushing record to lead the purple and gold to their first playoff victory since 2010.
Laurier will need Campbell, a fifth-year kinesiology / physical eduationa student-athlete to continue his stellar play next weekend, as the Golden Hawks head to London to take on the powerhouse Western Mustangs in OUA semifinal action.
DEFENCE: Austin Reusch (Burlington, Ont.) –4th yr. – Laurier
Laurier defensive back Austin Reusch helped shut down the potent McMaster offence on his way to OUA Defensive Player of the Week honours.
The 6-foot-0, 194 lbs Reusch collected 2.5 tackles, but provided great coverage all day against a tough McMaster receiving core, which was highlighted by a key breakup in the endzone on 3rd and 10 late in the 4th quarter that sealed the victory for the Golden Hawks.
The fourth-year business major led the defence in limiting the second highest scoring team in OUA to just 15 points (averaged 44.4 during the season)
Reusch and Laurier will need to have another performance like that when they take on Western, who is the highest scoring team in CIS history.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Michael Domagala (St. Catharines, Ont.) – 3rd yr. – Carleton
Carleton kicker Michael Domagala has been named OUA Special Teams Player of the Week after helping his Ravens to the programs first playoff victory in recent history over the Queen’s Gaels by a score of 39-8.
Domagala, a third-year criminology and criminal justice major, connected on a 39 yard field goal, as well as added five extra points to contribute eight points to the Ravens victory. The St. Catherines, Ont. native also averaged almost 40 yards on his seven punts, as well at almost 60 yards on his six kickoffs, keeping Carleton in solid field position all day.
The Ravens will look to the 5-foot-9 kicker to continue his special teams excellence throughout the playoffs, as the Ravens head to Guelph next weekend to take on the Gryphons in OUA semifinal action.
