OUA and uOttawa Mourning Loss of Gee-Gees Football Player Loic Kayembe
OTTAWA - The University of Ottawa is mourning the loss of Loic Kayembe, a 24-year-old student at the Faculty of Social Science, originally from Montreal, and beloved member of the Gee-Gees football team since 2015. Loic passed away suddenly in his sleep early Sunday morning.
A starting defensive end for the Gee-Gees, Loic brought energy and joy to the game and to his teammates. He was a core member of a tightly knit defensive unit, many of whom are from Montreal and were football teammates together at Montmorency College. The entire Gee-Gees team is deeply affected by this loss.
Loic’s vibrant personality radiated far beyond the football team to his classmates and fellow Gee-Gees on other varsity teams.
The entire University of Ottawa community and all Gee-Gees wish to express their sincerest condolences to Loic’s family.
A commemorative ceremony will be held prior to the Panda Game scheduled on September 30th. For now, the family and members of the team request privacy during this difficult time.
