Ptaszek headlines list of five inductees elected to Burlington Sports Hall of Fame
BURLINGTON, Ont. - Three athletes and two builders have been chosen to join 44 other individuals as the latest members of the Burlington Sports Hall of Fame.
Donald Leggat, who passed away in January, was one of the best squash players in Canadian history. His play impressed the sport's No. 1 player of the 1950s, Hashim Khan, who called Leggat’s serve the fastest he’d ever seen.
Chris Mitruk won numerous Canadian trampoline championships. Among his career highlights were multi-gold medal wins at world trampoline and tumbling championships.
Stefan Ptaszek was a three-time all-Canadian football receiver at Wilfrid Laurier University and won one of his three Vanier Cup titles as a player in 1991.
In the builder category, Dr. David Levy recently retired as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ team doctor after 45 years. He is known as “the godfather of sports medicine” in the Hamilton area.
Jim Tatti, a radio and television broadcaster for more than 40 years, spent much of his career anchoring the iconic Sportsline, Canada’s first half-hour sports highlights show, which aired for 23 years on Global TV.
The class of 2018 will be inducted at ceremonies scheduled for the Burlington Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, May 29. Tickets for the event cost $50 per person and can be purchased by contacting Wayne Heslop at 905-520-8922.
